Tell Your Story with A Piece of Art

FIND OUT HOW

Not Sure How To Do That?

We all desire to have objects in our homes that are reflective of our past. They provide guests and visiting family members with glimpses of what we hold so close to our hearts. They serve as heirlooms that we pass to the next generation.

Finding the right artist to trust with this memory, however, can be difficult.

What memory should it be? How do I entrust that memory to an artist? How much will that cost? What should I expect the process to look like?

There are a lot of questions and hassle that can be tied up with a commissioned piece like this.

Commissioning Art is Easier Than You Think

The idea of commissioning a piece of art may seem like a daunting task, but the process is easier than you think.

Share with me the things you love, the story you are hoping to have told, and I will walk you through the “hows” of getting a one-of-a-kind piece of art designed specifically for your space.  Let me use my years of experience to remove any fears or doubts you may be wrestling with about this being a complicated process. We can make this design experience as easy as a chat between friends.

Robbie Mueller

Mixed Media Narrative Artist
LaGrange, Kentucky

I'd love to create a handcrafted original for your home or office.

I have been making mixed media, narrative-style of art for more than 12 years. My sculptures and paintings depict mostly traditional- & folk-themed subjects, and I have garnered both regional and national attention through my work.

I’d love to create a piece of art for your home or office, that is a handcrafted original. If you have ever considered how to start commissioning art, it begins with a simple phone conversation (or in home consultation, if possible).

I would love to talk with you about making a part of your life story come to life through a piece of art!

“When art can connect us with a part of our past, we are immediately attracted to it. We feel like the image is able to tell a part of our story.”

Hear from Past Commission Clients

I couldn't be more pleased with the results of the two commissions I had Robbie create. Both of my girls loved their paintings, and they are hanging in their homes. I will be keeping you in mind for future commissions, Robbie.

Leslie Spetz
Louisville, KY

"My wife, Carla, and I volunteer for Shriners Children’s Hospitals. We needed something unique to draw attention at public events, which would create opportunities for conversation. Robbie Mueller did not disappoint. His repurposed and creative touch were exactly what we were looking for!"

Tommy & Carla Purvis
Smithfield, KY

"I asked Robbie to make a gift for my husband similar to another piece that he had made. He had never met husband, so he took the time to find a picture of him. The gift took on a whole new meaning when I received it, and the face was a wonderful likeness of my husband! The experience couldn't have been better! Thanks, Robbie!"

Frequently Asked Questions

What questions do you have for me? Here are just a few questions people like you ask me over and over again.

  • Would it be appropriate for me to touch this piece of your art?

Yes, because I am very tactile myself. If I tempted you to want to feel the textures, or try to figure out what materials I have used, I see that as a good thing; therefore, touch it. (I only ask that you don’t pull on objects that might be pulled off)

  • Would you ever consider doing a special piece for me?

Yes, I would be more than willing to commission a one-of-a-kind piece of art for your home or office.

  • I see that a lot of your art has ‘dimension’ to it. Does that make it 3-D art?

It can, but typically if a piece is made to hang flat on a wall, it is considered relief or bas relief art; if it is free standing and can be viewed from all directions, then it is usually considered 3-D sculpture.

  • Does a commissioned piece of art take longer for you to complete than the art you are displaying at this show?

No, not necessarily. Time of completion for commissioned art is dependent upon the complexity of the clients wants, what materials & mediums I am using, how many upcoming shows I must prepare for, and how many commissions I already have contracted ahead of yours. I make every effort to present a realistic timeline for completion when we have our final consult discussion or meeting.

  • Where do you come up with these ideas?

It varies. Usually an event or memory from my past is the inspiration for a piece, but sometimes when I have a found object, the object provides me with the idea.

  • Do you have any more like these (insert most any piece of my art)?

No, each of my pieces are unique and different. Although, I am willing to re-do similar subject matter if requested, the completed piece would differ from the one you are seeing. Often, I can not replicate a piece because I would never find ‘that’ exact found object again.

  • Do you ever do (insert a subject matter)?

Yes I have done that, but don’t have any at this show, or no, that is not a subject matter that I typically do, however, I would be glad to discuss commissioning a piece with you.

It's your story. It needs to be told.

I would cherish the opportunity to discuss commissioning a custom piece of art with your home or office in mind. If the “How to begin?” or “Where do I start?” is causing you hesitation, then let’s talk. I look forward to our conversation!

Sculpture Narrative Art Pieces

I utilize a variety of materials in my sculpting process. I sculpt in carved wood, paper mache’, found objects, and metal. As a result, I am either carving away (carved wood) or building-up material in the case of both paper mache and metal, and/or combining processes when using carved elements with found objects.

Folk Art Paintings

Found & salvaged wood are my favorite ‘canvas’, but I have also painted on salvaged metal and the occasional stretched canvas. Because my art evolved from a furniture-building background, I was naturally attracted to the dimensional aspects of working in relief. I will frequently “build-off” my canvas with wood & found objects, to create the feel of “3-D” aspects in my relief.

Salvaged Art

Occasionally in my seeking & finding, objects are found that lend themselves to provide a unique canvas for artist expression. Old lunch boxes, suitcases, factory molds, ironing boards, military helmets are some examples of previous transformations.
